Early Years

At Barnston Primary School we believe that, in the early years, high quality education is essential.  It provides the foundations for learning and personal development.

We deliver the Early Years Foundation stage curriculum with a particular emphasis on; communication and language, positive attitudes and behaviours and the development of thinking and learning skills.

We aim to provide a safe, caring and enabling environment, which allows children to learn how to work, play and co-operate with others and ensures that they feel included, secure and valued.

Both our indoor and outdoor learning environments are developed to be engaging and motivating across the curriculum and allow children to explore, play and learn.

We provide relevant, interesting and fun learning experiences that enable children to consolidate and build on previous knowledge and make connections between new and prior learning.

We acknowledge that children learn in many different ways and we recognise the need to develop strategies and provide opportunities that allow our children to learn in ways that best suit them.

Everyone is entitled to and has access to a variety of learning to match different learning styles and develop positive attitudes and independence. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum, which covers all areas and encourages each child to reach their full potential whilst fostering a love of learning.

The Early Years at Barnston encourages exploration and experimentation and helps to

Develop your child’s creativity and independence

We are pleased to share the communications toolkit for the Best Start in Life campaign, which aims to increase awareness of the importance of early years in a child’s development and the role of early years education:
